whatnot

The household aloe plant is a different species than the aloe barbadensis that is used in skin care products. Unprocessed aloe contains irritating substances, such as anthroquinones, which could do more harm than good.

Uh, oh. What kind of harm are we talkin here?

Mostly skin irritation and allergic reactions to the plant itself.

That has never happened when I use it from my plant. Does that mean it's ok? Or that it still doesn't have beneficial properties?

It still has some beneficial properties, but, it also has a higher chance of allergic reaction and/or irritation and the more exposure you have to the irritants, the more likely you will become sensitive to them.
